UEDA GENJI Profile
Born in 1977.
Graduated from the Tsukuba University School of Art & Design.
I grew up in a family in which my grandfather was a painter,
my father was an advertising designer and
my mother was an art teacher.
When I was a teenager my family
and I faced financial hardship,
due to the failure of my Father’s business.
Just before I entered Tsukuba University
my Father passed away.
So I had to work hard to earn money,
to continue as an art student.
Though I couldn’t earn enough to complete the Master course.
During this time it was really difficult to get a job in Japan.
By the time I got a job, I soon lost it, due to my depression.
While struggling from depression
I was able to find joy and a sense of purpose from drawing.
One day a friend suggested I hold an art exhibition.
On my first exhibition a Japanese businesswoman,
who came back from NY greatly admired my artworks.
Since this great opportunity,
she invited me to hold an exhibition at her own gallery every year.
My artwork encompasses positive and negative themes.
It also depicts “how the world works” through my unique worldview.
A style which is loved by people of all generations, and across many fields.
